Olympic gold medalist Anthony Ervin, the first swimmer of African-American descent to make the USA Olympic Swim Team, was the featured speaker at the Seattle U NIKE Swim Camp at the Connolly Center on Monday, June 22, 2009.

Ervin spoke to the campers about motivation and training, plus he recounted his path to winning the gold medal in the 50 meter freestyle during the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. He also talked about how swimming has given him a valuable opportunity that has impacted him throughout his life.

Ervin, also a member of the 4x100 meter freestyle relay squad that won the silver medal in 2000, went on to win both the 50 meter freestyle and the 100 meter freestyle at the 2001 World Aquatic Championships in Fukuoka, Japan. Ervin attended the University of California, Berkeley, winning seven NCAA Championships during his collegiate career, including the 100 freestyle and as a member of the 400 freestyle relay team three times each.
