Members of the Seattle University women's basketball team visited Seattle Children's Hospital last Friday, April 24, to lift the spirits of the young children who are being treated for various illnesses.

The student-athletes joined the children in one of the playrooms at the hospital and helped make paper-bag puppets, which the children used to create short plays. The players' visit to the hospital is one of several service projects the team has undertaken this year, as the Seattle University athletic department continues to follow its mission of encouraging student-athletes to engage the greater community through meaningful service activity.

"It was so inspiring to see how happy those kids were and how they take nothing for granted," junior guard Cassidy Murillo (Spokane, Wash.), one of the team's captains and a member of the Seattle University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, said after the visit.

The Seattle University women's basketball team just completed its first season in Division I with a 20-9 record, including a perfect 10-0 record at home. The squad is eligible to return most of its players from this year's roster for the 2009-10 season in which all of its games will be against Division I opposition.
