The softball team took the quick lead and used a solid all-around performance from Hannah Klein (, ) to defeat , 9-0, in a run-rule shortened game at the Division I Independent Tournament at Butler-Hancock Field.
jumped on top quickly, as Katie Antich (, ) led off the game with a walk, advanced to second on a groundout, and scored on a single through the left side by Jamie Foote (). Lisa Hill’s (, ) single eluded the left fielder, allowing Foote to score and Hill to advance to second base. Lauren Berin (Lacey, ) would drive in Hill on a single, and she would score the fourth run of the first inning on a triple by Jessica Amador ().
The Redhawks extended the advantage in the third inning, starting with a walk to Berin and a single by Klein. After Amador advanced the runners one base with a sacrifice bunt, Sandra Hernandez () singled to drive in Berin. Klein scored on a single by Cassie Cueto (), who took advantage of another Sioux fielding error by coming around to score and increasing SeattleU’s lead to 7-0.
In the fourth inning, Berin and Klein repeated their at-bats from the previous inning with a walk and a single. With two outs, Cueto doubled to right field to bring both runners home. Klein took care of the rest from the pitching circle, giving up only five hits and one walk while striking out two batters to go along with a 2-for-3 batting performance with two runs scored.
(15-20) begins bracket play this afternoon with a contest against Cal State Bakersfield beginning at approximately 2:30 p.m. local time. The Roadrunners posted two one-run victories over the Redhawks (8-7 and 10-9) during the Loyola Marymount Invitational on Feb. 13 and 14.
