The Seattle University women’s tennis team earned their second straight victory in an exhibition match with a 9-0 victory of Green River Community College Saturday afternoon at the Seattle University Tennis Courts.
The Redhawks took an early 3-0 lead after the doubles matches were completed. Audree Jenks (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Nicole Fleckenstein (Seattle, Wash.) paired up in the number one slot to defeat Jodi Owen and Darcy Idler 8-1. The number two slot saw the pair of Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) and Mikalea Peterson (Spokan, Wash.) defeat Angelica Alba and Jessica Maderos 8-2, while Aya Sugimoto (Poulsbo, Wash.) and Kathy Velasco (Federal Way, Wash.) defeated Shelly Yang and Wakana Takahashi in the third slot, 8-2.
Jenks kept the momentum going in singles play by defeating Owen in the number one position in straight-sets (6-0, 6-0). Whitney Cheng (Seattle, Wash.) made the score 5-0 with her win over Alba in the second slot (6-1, 6-0). Fleckenstein also picked up a win in the third position with her victory over Idler (6-0, 6-0).
In the fourth slot, Schwab picked up a victory over Maderos in straight sets (6-0, 6-0), while Sugimoto defeated Yang in the fifth position (6-0, 6-0), and Erin Colton-Enberg (Portland, Ore.) wrapped up the sweep with a victory of Takahashi (6-0, 6-0).
Seattle University will take a couple of weeks off before returning to action on April 5th when they take on Pacific at the SU Tennis Courts starting at 12 p.m.
