The Seattle University women’ s tennis team fell to West Coast Conference member Gonzaga University, 7-0 at the Amy Yee Tennis Club in Seattle on Sunday afternoon.
Audree Jenks (Albuquerque, N.M.) started off well in her number one singles match, earning a victory in the first set 2-6,but fell in the final two sets 6-1, 6-1 to Aglaya Kokurina. In the number two position, Whitney Cheng (Seattle, Wash.) was defeated by Rika Mehndiratta (6-3, 6-4), while Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) fell to Kristina Zauere in the third spot (7-5, 6-2).
In the four, five, and six spots, Clare Dodge defeated Aya Sugimoto (Poulsbo, Wash.) (6-2, 6-2), Danielle Farmer defeated Mikalea Peterson (Spokane, Wash.) (6-0, 6-2), and Madeline Edson-White defeated Megan Reinhartsen (Sammamish, Wash.) (6-0, 6-0).
The number two doubles team of Cheng and Ariel Ohno (Kent, Wash.) took Farmer and Mehndiratta to the brink, losing the set in a tie-break 7-3. In the number one position, Kokurina and Zauere defeated Nicole Fleckenstein (Seattle, Wash.) and Jenks 8-2. The third position saw Dodge and Edson-White defeat Schwab and Sugimoto 8-4.
Seattle University (2-4) will continue their season Friday, March 20, when they take on Bellevue Community College at the Robinswood Tennis Center in Bellevue starting at 3 p.m.
