After setting more school records in his final competition as a collegiate swimmer, Doug Djang (Seattle, Wash.) has been named the Featured Student-Athlete of the Week on GoSeattleU.com for the second time in his career.

Over the past two months, Djang has set four school records. This past week at the USA Swimming Austin Grand Prix in Texas, he set the new school mark in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 54.80 seconds. At the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships in Long Beach, Calif. last month, he helped set new records in the 200 medley relay (1:31.07), the 200 freestyle relay (1:22.49), and the 400 freestyle relay (3:02.86). Djang also won the conference title in the 100 breaststroke in 55.28 seconds and helped Seattle University earn a victory in the 400 medley relay in 3:22.17.

Earlier this season, Djang set a new school record in the 50 freestyle at the Husky Invitational in Federal Way, Wash., on Dec. 4, by posting a time of 20.71 seconds. He also celebrated Senior Day at the Connolly Center pool by setting a new pool record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 56.51 seconds against Simon Fraser on Jan. 17. Djang was a five-time All-American at the NCAA Division II Championships, finishing fifth in the 100 breaststroke during the 2008 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships after an eighth place finish during the 2007 national meet.

"Doug is a passionate, driven swimmer and teammate, and this is reflected in his results and in the team. We are lucky to have Doug as part of the SeattleU swim program and grateful for his contributions to the team," acting head coach Kat Cuevas said.

In the classroom, Djang is a history major with a 3.148 grade point average. Having been previously honored on Feb. 11, 2008, Djang joins teammate Bryant Bevers, distance runner Katie Hansen, and volleyball player Libby Graff as two-time winners of the weekly award.

The athletic department will name a Featured Student-Athlete each week based on a student-athlete’s performance both in athletic competition and in the classroom. The department is presently in Year One of the reclassification process towards moving up to NCAA Division I status.
