The softball team took the early lead and had chances to come back after falling behind, but was able to hold on for a 3-2 victory Saturday morning at the Husky Softball Classic at the Husky Softball Stadium.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning, when Lisa Hill (Tahuya, Wash.) drew a walk and Jamie Foote (Lynnwood, Wash.) followed with her second home run in as many days. Meanwhile, starting pitcher Kelsey Reynolds () set down 11 straight Bronco batters at one point and allowed only two hits through the first four innings.
In the top of the fifth, an infield hit, a walk, and a hit batter allowed to load the bases with one out. Kelsey Perkins singled through the left side of the infield to put the Broncos on the board, and Lexi Straton followed with a double to give the lead.
Allie Crump came on in relief of Bronco starter Aubray Zell in the bottom of the fifth inning. Katie Antich (, ) and Sandra Hernandez (, ) notched back-to-back singles in the fifth inning, Foote and Jessica Amador () drew walks in the sixth inning, and Antich singled again in the seventh and advanced to third with one out. All three times, Crump was able to work out of the jam without any runs scoring to save the game for the Broncos.
Zell earned the victory for (5-5), scattering five hits and a walk in four innings while striking out three batters. Reynolds took the loss for , allowing five hits and a walk while earning one strikeout during the game.
(2-6) will finish its participation in the Husky Softball Classic Sunday morning in a rematch with beginning at 10 a.m. Justin Kesterson and Jason Behenna will broadcast the game live on www.GoSeattleU.com.
