has been selected as one of eight hosts nationwide of the day-long Team Captain’s Leadership Camp, an intensive and interactive sports leadership camp for aspiring and actual leaders of all sports, to be held at the Saturday, August 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Arranged by head volleyball coach Shannon Ellis, the camp is run by the , which conducts comprehensive Leadership Academies with several of the nation’s top athletic departments such as , Notre Dame, , , and Yale.

“Jeff Janssen is a gifted speaker and everyone who attends this training will leave with renewed confidence and energy,” Ellis said.

The Leadership Camp teaches high school sophomores through college seniors the leadership insights and skills needed to be a highly effective and respected leader of their teams. The camp is limited to 100 participants, with an early registration fee of $175 if completed by May 1, 2009 and a still-discounted fee of $275 after May 1, depending on space.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for athletes in the region,” said Ellis. “This is a way to improve on those intangibles that are essential to success.”

The registration fee includes the six-hour training session on August 15, six months of ongoing leadership development and support online through the Team Captains Network (www.teamcaptainsnetwork.com), a copy of Janssen’s book The Team Captain’s Leadership Manual, and a Captain’s Camp T-shirt along with snacks provided throughout the day.

“I have seen for myself the difference that having skilled leaders can have on a team over the course of a season. Leadership can be taught and it can be improved. Athletes who want to be their best and lead their teams to excellence will learn how in this camp. I’m definitely sending my captains,” Ellis said.
