On a muddy field caused by constant rain, the Seattle University women’s soccer team scored twice in the second half to earn a 3-1 victory over Cal State Bakersfield Friday afternoon at Championship Field, reaching the 10-win mark for the 13th consecutive season.
With the score tied at 1-1 in the 77th minute, Kara Kuttler () sent a free kick from about 25 yards out into the box. Following a couple of crossing Redhawk players on the play, Madison Collins (Boise, Idaho) deflected the ball into the net for her second goal of the season, while Kuttler earned her team-leading fifth assist of the year.
Four and a half minutes later, earned an insurance goal, as Collins crossed the ball from the right side into the box, where Jamie Coe () made a run and headed the ball past Roadrunner goalie Marina Constantinou for her team-leading eighth goal of the season. Collins earned her first assist of the year on the play.
took the lead halfway through the first half, as Coe sent a shot on net that was turned aside by Constantinou. Kuttler pursued the rebound and sent the ball into the open net for her fifth goal of the season, while Coe picked up her second assist of the year on the play.
Cal State Bakersfield (5-13-1) evened the score with seven minutes remaining in the first half, as after a foul, Kassi Massey sent a free kick towards the goal that eluded Redhawk goalie Madison Goverde () and found the net for her fourth tally of the season.
Goverde needed to make one save in the match as controlled the action, earning a 15-3 shot advantage over Cal State Bakersfield. Constantinou finished with six saves for the Roadrunners, three in each half.
(10-4-3) makes a quick trip to to face UC Riverside Sunday, Nov. 2, beginning at 1 p.m. before finishing the season with home matches against Central Washington (Nov. 5 ? 2 p.m.) and Saint Martin’s (Nov. 9 ? 1 p.m.).
