The Seattle University women’s soccer team saw its four-match unbeaten streak come to an end as Washington State scored a goal in each half to post a 2-0 victory Wednesday afternoon at the WSU Lower Soccer Field.

In the 20th minute, Maggie Dougher crossed a free kick into the box, and Carly Dobratz sent a header into the net for her first goal of the season, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead. It would stay that way until the 70th minute, when Kiersten Dallstream found Mallory Fox in the box, and Fox would settle the ball and slip it inside the right post for her second tally of the season.

took a flurry of shots early in the first half, including a header by Jamie Coe () in the sixth minute that hit the crossbar. After ’s first goal, increased the offensive pressure, but shots by Alicia Malstrom (, ) and Maryann Boddy () were both stopped by Cougar goalie Lindsay Parlee.

’s final chance came late in the second half, as Malstrom sent another shot on goal, but relief goalie Stephanie Phillips was able to make the save. Malstrom, Boddy, Coe, and Kassandra Riozzi () each finished with two shots for the Redhawks. Redhawk goalie Madison Goverde () finished with three saves, while her teammates helped out with a team save.

After the Redhawks took five shots in the first 12 minutes, outshot , 14-3, including 7-1 in the second half. did have five corner kick opportunities while (3-2-3) had two corner kicks during the afternoon. Only ten fouls were called during the match, six on the Cougars and four on the Redhawks.

(3-2-2) finally plays a home match after seven road contests to start the season, hosting in the home opener Sunday, Sept. 21, beginning at 1 p.m. at Championship Field. The Redhawks and Vikings met three times in the mid-1990s before moved to Division I, with holding the series edge, 1-0-2.
