The women’s soccer team increased its offensive pressure in the second half, which paid off in the 74th minute with a goal to give the Redhawks a 1-0 victory over the Friday in the second match of the Governor’s Cup at Guy Wicks Field.

The second half pressure started right away, as Kara Kuttler () sent a shot on goal 1:23 after halftime that was saved by Idaho goalie Liz Boyden. Later in the second half, Boyden made another save off a shot from Madison Collins () that was set up by a corner kick from Kuttler.

The Redhawks finally scored when senior Maryann Boddy () placed a shot just to the inside of the left post for her first goal of the season. continued to press the Vandal defense, as another shot by Boddy in the 83rd minute was stopped by Boyden, and Kahlyn Keilty-Lucas () was denied on back-to-back scoring attempts with just over a minute remaining in regulation.

The defense held (0-3) to six total shots, three in each half. Madison Goverde () made her only save 14 minutes into the contest and picked up her second consecutive shutout. Boyden finished the match with five saves, all in the second half.

(2-1-2) will face on the second day of the Governor’s Cup, Sunday, Sept. 7, beginning at 11 a.m. The Broncos, 3-0-1 so far this season, defeated , 2-1, in the first match of the tournament Friday. After Sunday’s match, the Redhawks will have a 10-day break before traveling to , , to face , followed by the home opener against Sunday, Sept. 21, at 1 p.m. at Championship Field.
