The Seattle University athletic department is saddened upon learning of the death of Steve Manos, a former member of the SU cross country and track and field teams who passed away on July 24 after a long battle with cancer.
Manos, 26, still holds the Seattle University records in the 3000 meter run during the indoor season and in the mile, the 3000 meter run, and the 10,000 meter run during the outdoor season. He had been a graduate student in economics at the University of Arizona, and a scholarship fund in his name has been set up by that department. Manos had been planning to return to Seattle University during the fall to meet the current cross country squad and to participate in ceremonies surrounding the volleyball team's Dig For The Cure Classic on Oct. 11-12.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Manos' family and friends in this difficult time. The cross country team will wear ribbons in his honor during the Emerald City Open on Oct. 4, and the track and field program will further honor Manos on a date and in a fashion to be determined.
