The softball team used the long ball to take the early lead, and pitcher Erin Martin (, ) threw a two-hitter as the Redhawks defeated , 4-0, in a non-conference game Friday afternoon at WOU Field.
Kaha Weir () led off the second inning with a home run to left field, her third home run of the season. With two outs in the third inning, Jane Purdy () took the team lead with her fifth home run of the season, a shot to left-center field that increased her school-record career total to 35 home runs.
started another two-out rally in the fifth inning as Katie Antich (, ) doubled and scored on Sandra Hernandez’s () single. Katie Petersen () came on as a pinch runner, stole second base, and scored on a single by Purdy.
Martin tied her own single-season school record with her 23rd victory, allowing only an infield single to Whitney Lee in the third inning and a bunt single to Shanley Young in the fifth inning. Martin struck out three batters in picking up her GNAC-record 35th career shutout, just one strikeout away from posting at least 100 strikeouts in four straight seasons.

With a sweep, the Redhawks will clinch at least a share of the GNAC title, but to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, they will need to win one more game than Western Oregon, who hosts Western Washington Saturday and holds the tiebreaker edge over for the automatic berth. Before the first game, Senior Day ceremonies will take place honoring Martin, Purdy, and Brenda Stice ().
