As Seattle University enters the process of returning to Division I, many people made contributions at the first-ever fundraising luncheon to benefit the men's basketball program Friday, February 29, at F.X. McRory's in Seattle.

A crowd of about 120 guests, made up of former players, other alumni, Seattle University administrators, and friends of the program, enjoyed a meal and each other's company at the Pioneer Square restaurant. Seattle University President Fr. Steve Sundborg, Athletic Director Bill Hogan, Head Coach Joe Callero, and SU Hall of Famer Johnny O'Brien spoke to the assembled crowd, telling them how much their donations would mean in terms of recruiting and improved travel conditions for the players and coaches, as well as other needs the program has in order to compete at the Division I level.

While donations are still coming in as a result of the luncheon, $80,000 has already been collected to benefit the men's basketball program. The athletic department plans for future luncheons to benefit not only the men's basketball program, but other sports within the department.

The accompanying photo gallery shows candid shots from the event, with the photos taken by Assistant Athletic Director Erin Engelhardt. Athletic Development Officer John Dougherty and Senior Athletic Administrative Assistant Kelly Lynch played major roles in the planning of the luncheon, and Mick McHugh, the owner of F.X. McRory's and a Seattle University alum, was gracious in hosting the luncheon at his establishment.
