After posting two victories for over Montana State Billings over the weekend, senior Erin Martin () has been named GNAC Pitcher of the Week, announced Tuesday morning by the conference office.
In the home opener Saturday, Martin scattered seven hits as defeated the Yellowjackets, 10-2. After giving up two runs on three hits in the third inning, Martin settled down, giving up only one hit in each of the last two innings as the eight-run rule was invoked in the fifth inning. She struck out seven batters without walking anybody.
In Sunday’s non-conference game, Martin gave up only one run on eight hits as staked her to an early lead on its way to the 5-1 victory. She struck out four more Yellowjacket batters and again did not give up a walk in the game.
So far this season, Martin is 8-0 with a 2.40 earned run average. She has eight complete games, including one shutout. In 55 1/3 innings, she has given up only four walks while striking out 43 batters, currently pitching 17 consecutive innings without giving up a walk. This is the eighth career weekly award for the senior pitcher, one behind ’s Tracy Motzny for most in GNAC history.
, 15-1 and ranked 11th in last week’s NFCA Division II coaches poll, heads on the road this weekend, first facing Northwest Nazarene in a three-game series Friday and Saturday, March 14-15, followed by a GNAC doubleheader at Sunday, March 16.
