Three swimmers, led by Jakub Jiracek’s () first place finish, finished in the top six of the men’s 200 individual medley, the highlight for SeattleU in the second day of competition at the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships Thursday at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool.
Jiracek won the 200 IM by over two seconds, posting a time of 1:52.52, the second-fastest time in school history. Bryson Chiu () finished third in 1:54.74, in the middle of second, third, and fourth being separated by 4/100ths of a second. Andrew Miron () posted a sixth-place finish with a time of 1:56.68.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Bryant Bevers ( Way, ), Gordon Smith (, ), Chiu, and Doug Djang (, ) finished in fourth place in 1:26.35, while the quartet of Nathan Freeman (Phoenix, Ariz.), Andrew Martinez (Concord, Calif.), Miron, and Jiracek finished in tenth place with a time of 1:30.32. Freeman also finished in tenth place in the 500 freestyle in 4:46.50, and posted a time of 4:50.27 to finish in 17th place.
In a competitive “B” final of the men’s 50 freestyle, Djang just missed the victory by 1/100th of a second, finishing in tenth overall in 21.50 seconds. Bevers finished in 11th place with a final time of 21.83 seconds, while Smith won the “C” final in 21.87 seconds, finishing in 17th place overall. Chase Winterroth (, ) placed 23rd in 22.45 seconds, Ben Guthrie (, ) earned a 26th place finish with a time of 22.78 seconds, followed by teammate Chris Anderson () in 27th place in 22.95 seconds.
For the women, Kelsey Henan () qualified for the “A” final in the 500 freestyle with a preliminary time of 5:09.03, and then finished eighth in the finals with a time of 5:14.06. Alison Colnon (Seattle, Wash.) improved by over a second in finishing 11th with a time of 5:12.54, while Alex Weiss (Reno, Nev.), who finished 17th overall, was victorious in the “C” final with a time of 5:10.72, over nine seconds faster than her preliminary time and the ninth-fastest final time in the event.
In the women’s 200 freestyle relay, the squad of Henan, Colnon, Megan Lavin (Kalispell, Mont.), and Francesca Reale (Gig Harbor, Wash.) finished in seventh place in 1:39.90, while Elizabeth Hanohano (Honolulu, Hawaii), Kaci Dudley (Murrieta, Calif.), Christina Hunsberger (Bellevue, Wash.), and Heather Nelson (Bremerton, Wash.) earned a 16th place finish with a time of 1:42.67. Hanohano finished in 20th place in the 200 individual medley in 2:13.52, with earning a 24th place finish in a time of 2:15.41.
Reale won the “C” final of the women’s 50 freestyle, finishing 17th overall with a time of 24.86 seconds. Lavin earned a 21st place finish with a time of 25.59 seconds, and Vanessa Rich () finished in 38th place with a final time of 26.68 seconds. After two days, the SeattleU women are in seventh place with 214 points, while the men are in fourth place with 315 points.
Competition at the conference championships continues Friday, with preliminaries during the day and finals in the evening.
