After helping win the Mizuno Best of the West Invitational title with a 4-0 record, including two shutouts, junior shortstop Megan MacIsaac (, ) and sophomore pitcher Kelsey Reynolds () have been named GNAC Player and Pitcher of the Week, announced Monday by the conference office.
MacIsaac hit 6-for-12 over the weekend, picking up two hits in three of the four games played over the weekend. Among her six hits were two doubles and a triple, plus she drew four walks. She drove in four runs during ’s 10-3 victory over and added another RBI against and . Defensively, she was perfect, picking up four putouts and 15 assists without committing an error.
Reynolds was responsible for both shutouts that allowed to win the tournament via a tiebreaker over UC San Diego. Last Friday against defending regional champion Cal State Stanislaus, she allowed only six hits and a walk while striking out two batters in ’s 4-0 victory. The next day, she gave up only five hits and a walk against and , striking out six batters in that contest.
This is the first weekly honor of MacIsaac’s career, while Reynolds has picked up the weekly pitching award for the second time, receiving her first one on March 12, 2007, after pitching a perfect game against Northwest Nazarene. The title at the Best of the West Invitational is the second one for SeattleU in as many years, as the team captured the Central Washington University Invitational title last year.
Weather permitting, #18 (4-0) is scheduled to travel to Lacey, , to face ’s in a non-conference doubleheader Sunday, Feb. 10, beginning at 12 noon.
