All of Sunday's games of the Mizuno Best of the West Invitational have been cancelled due to unplayable field conditions after overnight rains, and #18 Seattle University has been declared the winner of the tournament, its best performance in the three years it has participated in this season-opening tourney.

Seattle University and UC San Diego each finished with 4-0 records, but SeattleU was declared the tournament champion based on its two shutouts against one by UC San Diego. The Redhawks outscored their opponents, 24-7, with four of those runs allowed coming in one inning against CSU Dominguez Hills.

The cancellations did eliminate the matchup between 18th-ranked SeattleU and sixth-ranked Humboldt State, a team probably looking for a measure of revenge after the Redhawks defeated the Lumberjacks twice to eliminate them from the NCAA West Regional last season. Those two teams are scheduled to meet Friday, March 28, at the Tournament of Champions, also held at Pedretti Park in Turlock, Calif.

Weather permitting, Seattle University will head to Lacey, Wash., next Sunday, Feb. 10, to face Saint Martin's in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 12 noon.
