Bryant Bevers Named University Student-Athlete of the Week

The Seattle University Athletic Department has named Bryant Bevers, the Seattle University Student-Athlete of the Week. Bryant has been key part of the men’s swim teams success as well as being a top performer in the classroom by achieving a 3.694 GPA while majoring in accounting.

Bevers was a two-time All-American last season competing on the 800 freestyle relay that finished sixth and the 400 freestyle relay that finished eighth at the NCAA D-II National Championships.

This season he looks to add to his individual honors as well as help achieve even greater heights as a team.  Head Coach, Craig Mallery says, “Bryant combines being highly reliable with being exceptional when it counts, but he is also very team focused.”

Mallery adds, “He has competed at a national level since he started at SU and will continue to do so.  His sprint freestyle has really developed and that may manifest into an even greater outcome.”

Bevers and teammate Doug Djang have come close to achieving the national B standard in both the 50 and 100 freestyle early this year.

Bevers is also a key member of the Seattle relay teams that qualified for nationals last season and hope to do so again this year.  Mallery calls Bevers, “a key member of our national team.”

Despite all the hard work that it takes to be a national level swimmer, Mallery is impressed with Bevers’ balance. “He is a balanced, young, aspiring person, he is what is all about.”

“He has the leadership piece, the greater good piece, strong academics, strong athletics, and an appealing dry sense of humor.”
