Seattle Soccer Team’s Place Five on CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams
Three Women and Two Men Awarded the Prestigious Academic Honor
A day after placing 16 players on the academic all-GNAC team, the Seattle University soccer programs earned more academic honors by placing five student-athletes on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.
All five were members of the District 8 First team, which makes them eligible to be named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans. That team will be selected and announced later this month.
On the men’s side, junior Chris Hodges (Redmond, Wash.) earned the award after achieving a 3.55 GPA in finance and management. Hodges has been a key defender for a team that has allowed just ten goals in 17 games so far this season.
Joining Hodges on the team was senior midfielder, John Fishbaugher (Redmond, Wash.). Fishbaugher, a four year starter for plays a key central midfield role for the Redhawks. He has achieved a 3.45 GPA while majoring in biology.
For the women, seniors Ashley Porter (Redmond, Wash.) and Mickey Pelland (Seattle, Wash.) were named to the team. Porter, last seasons GNAC player of the year and the GNAC all-time assists leader was selected for achieving a 3.81 GPA, while majoring in marketing. Pelland, a member of the defense that has 12 shutouts this season was selected for achieving a 3.86 GPA, while majoring in Spanish.
The final member of the team was sophomore Kate Edstrom (Portland, Ore.), who like Pelland plays an important role on the defense. She was honored for achieving a 3.96 GPA, while majoring in nursing.
Both teams conclude their regular seasons this Saturday, Nov. 3. The women will be home at Championship Field to face Montana State Billings at 1:00 p.m. for their Senior Day. The men travel across town to renew their rivalry with Seattle Pacific at 7:00 p.m. Announcements on postseason sites and pairings will be announced, Monday, Nov. 5.
