Volleyball Loses to Central Washington, 3-0

Despite a match-high 19 kills by Nikole Thompson, the Seattle University volleyball team could not overcome the offense of Central Washington, as the Wildcats swept the Redhawks, 3-0 (30-23, 30-21, 30-25) Saturday night in GNAC action at Nicholson Pavilion.

Despite a match-high 19 kills by Nikole Thompson (, ), the Seattle University volleyball team could not overcome the offense of Central Washington, as the Wildcats swept the Redhawks, 3-0 (30-23, 30-21, 30-25) Saturday night in GNAC action at Nicholson Pavilion.

(10-13, 9-5 GNAC) used a 9-0 run to pull away in game one, a 10-0 run to take the advantage in game two, and an 8-3 run to finish off game three and the match. Hitting .425 in the first game, the Wildcats finished with a hitting percentage of .250 while holding Seattle University to a .107 hitting percentage.

Besides her 19 kills, Thompson also earned 14 digs and a .233 hitting percentage during the night. Janet Beckerman (, ) and Libby Graff (, ) each finished with six kills and two blocks, while Shelly Anderson () earned five kills and nine digs in the match.

Defensively, Emily Deleissegues (Aromas, ) led the Redhawks with 21 digs, with Heather Gerke () contributing 19 digs. Setter Jamie Mellies () notched 39 assists, five digs, and two block assists.

Erin Norris led with 16 kills, while Rachael Schurman added ten kills, five service aces, and five total blocks to the winning effort. Setter Maggie Olson had a strong all-around match with 37 assists, 14 digs, three kills, and five total blocks. Defensively, libero Erika Stevens led all players with 30 digs.

(10-13, 7-8 GNAC) makes the trip to , next week to face Montana State Billings next Saturday, Nov. 3, beginning at 7 p.m. local time. The Redhawks finish the regular season with home matches against Northwest Nazarene (Nov. 8) and Seattle Pacific (Nov. 10), both beginning at 7 p.m. at the .
