The Seattle University volleyball team could not handle the offense of Western Washington, as the Vikings proved why they are leading the GNAC with a convincing 3-0 (30-21, 30-18, 30-14) victory over the Redhawks Thursday night at Carver Gym.
Western Washington (16-4, 12-1 GNAC) made only 18 total errors, while Seattle University made 23 attack errors to go along with five service, six reception, and two ball-handling errors. The Vikings hit .360 for the match and notched a .745 sideout percentage while holding the Redhawks to a .098 hitting percentage and a .443 sideout percentage.
No player reached double figures in kills, as Jessica Gunderson () led the way with nine kills. Nikole Thompson (, ) had eight kills and seven digs in the match, while Libby Graff (, ), Kelly Benson (, ), and Janet Beckerman () each finished with six kills.
Jamie Mellies () earned 30 assists and eight digs, plus she combined with Graff for all three team blocks. Emily Deleissegues (Aromas, ) led the Redhawks with 12 digs, with Heather Gerke (, ) and Donnelle Nicaise (, ) each notching ten digs and Shelly Anderson () contributing eight digs along with a service ace.
Jaime Anderson led the Vikings with 17 kills, two service aces, and 12 digs, with Emily Castro notching 14 kills and a .464 hitting percentage and Angie Alvord contributing ten kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Setter Katie Robinson finished the night with 40 assists, and libero Courtney Schneider continued to improve on her GNAC record for career digs with 27 more in this match.
(10-12, 7-7 GNAC) heads east to , , to face this Saturday, Oct. 27, beginning at 7 p.m. After a trip to Montana State Billings next weekend, the Redhawks return home for the final weekend of the regular season, hosting Northwest Nazarene (Nov. 8) and Seattle Pacific (Nov. 10) at the Connolly Center.
