Junior Madison Collins (, ), one of the leaders of the defense that has held opponents to seven goals through 17 matches, has been named GNAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, announced Monday morning by the conference office.
Collins, in her position as the center defender, has helped goalie Kaitlyn Jackson () earn 12 shutouts, tying the GNAC single-season record for most shutouts by a single goalie. The 12 shutouts are also one off the school record of 13 set in 1996 and tied in 2004.
Collins has also made offensive contributions with two goals and two assists so far this season. She scored in ’s 4-0 victory over on Sept. 1 and the 4-0 win at Montana State Billings on Oct. 6. She earned an assist on the game-winning goal at on Aug. 25 and picked up her second assist of the season Sunday in the 4-0 victory over ’s.
“ has been a key leader for our defense this season,” head coach Julie Woodward said. “She is one of our most valuable players.”
Last season Collins earned Second Team All-GNAC and Academic All-GNAC honors for her performance both on the field and in the classroom. Earlier this season she was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Sonoma State Seawolf Classic. She has helped the Redhawks move up to 11th in the NSCAA/adidas national coaches poll and maintain a regional ranking high enough to potentially earn a postseason bid for the second straight season.
(15-2, 10-1 GNAC) will head to Interbay Stadium Wednesday, Oct. 24, for the rematch with Seattle Pacific beginning at 7 p.m. The Falcons scored at the start of the second overtime to defeat the Redhawks in the first meeting on Sept. 29 at Championship Field, 2-1.
