Seattle Cross Country fares well at Charles Bowles Invite
women finish 6th, men take 14th.
The University cross country teams traveled to , to run in the Charles Bowles Invite, hosted by on Saturday morning. Both teams ran well as the women finished sixth out of 26 teams, while the men finished 14th out of 27 teams.
Katie Hansen paced the women by running the 5k race in a time of 18:05.75, good for 14th place overall. Close behind her was Rachael Johnson who completed the course in 18:34.10 to finish 26th and Rachel Yorkston who finished 35th with a time of 18:45.
The other scoring runners for the women were Julia Miller who finished 68th with a time of 19:21.15 and Greta Stickney who finished 80th in a time of 19:35.15. Natalie Martinez finished in 125th place with a time of 20:07.90, while Kerianne Quiocho earned a 131st place finish in a time of 20:10.95.
The men were once again paced by Nathan Heitzinger who covered the 8k course in a time of 25:09.15 to finish 18th. Nicholas Alvarado was next for the Redhawks as he finished 61st with a time of 25:56.95.
Rounding out the scoring for were three freshman. Hans Heitzinger placed 129th with a time of 26.58.60, Michael Van Nuland was 133rd with a time of 27:02.05, and Max Cole finished 136th with a time of 27:05.15. Graham Miller finished in 170th place with a time of 27:38.35, and Doug Rudeen crossed the finish line in 181st place with a time of 28:00.70.
265 runners competed in the women’s race, while 268 competed for the men. won both the men’s and women’s races in their home meet. The individual race winners were Sarah Zerzan of Willamette who stopped the watch at 17:20.15 and on the men’s side, Chris Erichsen of St, John’s () with a time of 24:10.65.
races again next weekend when they travel to to compete in the Western Washington Invitational on Saturday, October 6 at 9 a.m.
