The Seattle University women’s volleyball team made few errors and took advantage of Saint Martin’s mistakes to earn a much-needed sweep, 3-0 (30-15, 30-28, 30-20), Saturday night in GNAC volleyball action at the Connolly Center.
Libby Graff () led the way for Seattle University with 11 kills in 24 attempts without any errors for a .458 hitting percentage. Emily Powell () earned nine kills on 19 attempts with only one error for a .421 hitting percentage, plus she led the Redhawks with four service aces and three total blocks.
Setter Jamie Mellies () earned 37 assists, three service aces, nine digs, and two blocks, while Josie Christiansen (Coquille, Ore.) contributed five kills, 12 digs, and two blocks. Donnelle Nicaise (, ) also earned 12 defensive digs, and Heather Gerke (, ) and Shelly Anderson () each added nine digs to the winning effort.
For ’s (0-13, 0-4 GNAC), Malia Ibarra, Shealun Campisi, and Andrea Tarbet each earned eight kills to lead the Saints. Kanoe Kalalau notched 35 assists, but Saint Martin’s hurt themselves with 28 attack errors, eight service errors, and eight reception errors, including three calls against the team for being out of rotation order.
(4-8, 1-3 GNAC) will travel to next weekend, first facing Alaska Anchorage Thursday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. local time. The Redhawks return home Thursday, Sept. 27, to face Central Washington beginning at 7 p.m. at the .
