The Seattle University volleyball team split its Saturday matches at the Western Washington Invitational, defeating Cal State Dominguez Hills in the morning, 3-0 (30-20, 30-24, 30-18) before losing to Cal Poly Pomona, 3-0 (30-21, 30-23, 30-26) later in the day at Carver Gym.

The Seattle University volleyball team split its Saturday matches at the Western Washington Invitational, defeating Cal State Dominguez Hills in the morning, 3-0 (30-20, 30-24, 30-18) before losing to Cal Poly Pomona, 3-0 (30-21, 30-23, 30-26) later in the day at Carver Gym.

Against Cal State Dominguez Hills, Nikole Thompson (, ) led with 16 kills, while Haley Bury () earned 13 kills while making only two attack errors for a .314 hitting percentage. Jamie Mellies (, ) dished out 44 assists which in part led to nine kills from Libby Graff (, ) and seven kills by Emily Powell ()

Mellies, Graff, and Powell each picked up three total blocks, with Josie Christiansen (Coquille, ) leading the way with four blocks. Christiansen also earned two service aces, tied with Donnelle Nicaise (, ) and Shelly Anderson () for the team lead in the match. Nicaise also notched 12 digs in the match, with Emily Deleissegues (Aromas, ) leading the way for the Redhawks with 18 defensive digs.

struggled against Cal Poly Pomona, hitting at a .028 hitting percentage and committing seven service errors and six reception errors. Graff led the team offensively with eight kills, while Christiansen earned four kills, three service aces, and four blocks. Powell picked up five kills and six total blocks in the afternoon match, and Deleissegues finished the contest with 20 digs.

(3-5) begins conference play Thursday, Sept. 6, at Seattle Pacific beginning at 7 p.m. The Redhawks return to the Thursday, Sept. 13, to face , also beginning at 7 p.m.
