SEATTLE, Wash. - Seattle University head softball coach Dan Powers has announced that Brandi Gordon, a member of the 2006-07 University of Washington softball program that recently advanced deep into the postseason, has joined the Redhawk softball coaching staff as an assistant coach.

Gordon will work with the team's slap hitters and will coach the outfielders defensively. She will also be in charge of the squad's conditioning program. Gordon replaces Kim Gonzalez, who left the Seattle University softball program after four years as a player and four years as an assistant coach to move to San Francisco with her husband Jon.

Last season Gordon was the director of softball operations and camp coordinator at the University of Washington, which finished in third place at the 2007 NCAA Women's College World Series. She has also coached at countless local camps and clinics and has worked with several players and teams in the Puget Sound area as a private softball instructor.

"I am very excited to have Brandi join our staff this year. Brandi brings Division I experience from a premier program that will help us reach our goals as we transition to Division I in two years," said Powers.

Gordon was a four-year softball letterwinner at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif., from 2001-02 through 2004-05. She was a catcher her first two years at Pacific, but then made a successful move to the outfield for her junior and senior seasons. In her senior year, she was named Second Team All-Big West as well as Third Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America.

Born and raised in Redmond, Wash., Gordon attended Redmond High School and was a multi-sport letterwinner in volleyball, basketball, and softball. She graduated from the University of the Pacific with a sports sciences degree along with her teaching credential in physical education.

The Seattle University softball team is coming off a record-setting season with 36 victories, including five victories in the NCAA West Regional to advance to the regional title game for the first time in school history. The Redhawks finished the 2007 season ranked 18th in the NFCA coaches poll and should return 14 letterwinners from that squad to contend for the GNAC title and their fourth regional appearance in five years.
