Jahner Finishes Second In Decathlon At GNAC Combined Events Meet

MONMOUTH, Ore. - Third after the first day of the decathlon, Brock Jahner (Kalispell, Mont.) used strong performances in the pole vault and javelin throw to move up and finish in second place at the GNAC Multi-Events Championships Tuesday at Western Oregon University. On Monday, Jahner started the decathlon by running the 100 meters in a time of 11.81 seconds. He then leapt 20' 0.5" in the long jump. He topped the competition in the shot put with a top throw of 38' 2", and then cleared 5' 7" in the high jump. He concluded the first day with a time of 54.24 seconds in the 400 meters to accumulate 3,057 points, behind Zeb Udell of Western Oregon (3,375 pts.) and Justin Felt of Seattle Pacific (3,192 pts.)

He topped the competition in the shot put with a top throw of 38' 2", and then cleared 5' 7" in the high jump. He concluded the first day with a time of 54.24 seconds in the 400 meters to accumulate 3,057 points, behind Zeb Udell of Western Oregon (3,375 pts.) and Justin Felt of Seattle Pacific (3,192 pts.)

The sophomore began day two with the second-fastest time in the 110 meter hurdles (17.07), outrunning Felt by 2.72 seconds and moving into second place. He would maintain his position by throwing the discus 106' 6" and clearing a height of 13' 1.5" in the pole vault.

Jahner earned the best javelin throw with a top effort of 160' 9", and then wrapped up the day by running the 1500 meter run in 5:15.54. Jahner finished the decathlon with 5,852 points, 506 points behind Udell but over 200 points ahead of third place finisher Josh Grewe of Northwest Nazarene.

Jahner enabled Seattle University to pick up eight points towards the team total for the GNAC Championships, which will take place May 4-5 in Bellingham, Wash. The Redhawk track and field team heads to Western Washington this Friday for the WWU Twilight Meet at Civic Stadium beginning at 3 p.m.
