Murillo Named To Women's Division II Bulletin All-Freshman Team

BEAVERTON, Ore. - Cassidy Murillo (Yakima, Wash.), a key member of the Seattle University women's basketball team that earned its best record in 14 years, has been named to the Women's Division II Bulletin All-Freshman Team, announced in the April 2007 issue of the publication. Murillo, the 2007 GNAC Freshman of the Year, led the conference and is 11th in the country in three-point field goal percentage, hitting 43.5 percent (54-of-124) of her attempts. It was the second-highest three-point field goal percentage in a single season in Seattle history, and the 54 three-pointers she made is the third-highest total in a single season by a Seattle University player. The first-year player also led the GNAC in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.02), finished fifth in assists per game (3.37 apg), was tied for fifth in three-point field goals made per game (2.00), and placed ninth in minutes played (29.63 mpg). She also finished in the top 30 in the conference in scoring (23rd - 9.2 ppg), field goal percentage (16th - .414), steals (T14th - 1.41 spg), and blocked shots (0.33 bpg). Murillo started 14 of Seattle's 16 conference games, finishing first in the GNAC in three-point field goals percentage (.486), second in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.97), third in assists (3.94 apg), tied for third in three-point field goals made per game (2.25), tied for fifth in minutes played (33.31 mpg), and tied for ninth in steals (1.50 spg). She hit six three-pointers and scored a season-high 18 points in Seattle's

Murillo started 14 of Seattle's 16 conference games, finishing first in the GNAC in three-point field goals percentage (.486), second in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.97), third in assists (3.94 apg), tied for third in three-point field goals made per game (2.25), tied for fifth in minutes played (33.31 mpg), and tied for ninth in steals (1.50 spg). She hit six three-pointers and scored a season-high 18 points in Seattle's 70-58 overtime victory at Saint Martin's on Jan. 18, and she scored in double figures in each of the last five games of the year.

The freshman guard was the only GNAC player to make the team, which consisted of ten freshmen from across the country. Murillo is one of two players from the West Region to earn the honor, as she was joined by Jade Smith-Williams of Chico State.

Murillo is one of eight players expected to return to the Seattle University women's basketball team for the 2007-08 season. The 2006-07 Redhawks finished with an 18-9 record and were one of the top ten teams in the West Region for the majority of the season.
