SPOKANE, Wash. - Senior Danica Dougherty (Sammamish, Wash.) was named GNAC Academic All-Conference for the third consecutive year, leading a group of five Seattle University basketball players who earned the honor, announced Wednesday by the Great Northwest Athletic Conference office.
Dougherty is a marketing and management double major with a 3.83 grade point average. She is one of three Seattle University women's basketball players on the Academic All-Conference Team, with junior Jackie Thomas (Tacoma, Wash.) and sophomore Quinn Brewe (Edmonds, Wash.) also earning the honor. Thomas, named to the All-Academic Team for the second straight year, is majoring in sociology and has a 3.69 GPA, while Brewe is carrying a 3.81 GPA as a pre-major.
Junior Travis Welt (Spokane, Wash.) and sophomore Leigh Swanson (Mountlake Terrace, Wash.) are two of the 15 GNAC men's basketball players named to the Academic All-Conference Team. Welt is majoring in civil engineering and presently has a 3.31 grade point average. Swanson, who was named Second Team Academic All-District earlier this season, is a pre-major with a 3.60 GPA.
To be eligible for the GNAC Academic All-Conference Team, student-athletes must have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 and be in at least their second year of competition at their university.
