METAIRIE, La. - By earning cumulative grade points averages of at least 3.0, the Seattle University men's and women's cross country teams have earned recognition as All-Academic Teams by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), announced Thursday by the national office.
The Seattle University men's cross country team finished the Fall 2006 quarter with a cumulative GPA of 3.148, making the Redhawks one of 57 Division II men's cross country teams to earn the All-Academic Team honor. Seattle was one of three GNAC teams to earn the recognition by the coaches association along with Central Washington and Western Washington.
On the women's side, Seattle's cross country team was one of 91 Division II squads to be recognized as All-Academic Teams by the USTFCCCA. The Redhawks' cumulative GPA of 3.661 was one of the highest in the country, and Seattle joins Central Washington, Saint Martin's, and Seattle Pacific as GNAC schools that earned the honor.
Western State College was named Division II All-Academic Men's Cross Country Team of the Year, while Adams State College earned the honor of Division II All-Academic Women's Cross Country Team of the Year. The Team of the Year is awarded to the highest-finishing school at the NCAA Championships that meets All-Academic Team qualifications. The Western State men finished third at the 2006 NCAA Championships, while the Adams State women won their fourth consecutive national title.
Now in the midst of the indoor track and field season, Seattle University returns to action Sunday, Feb. 11, at the University of Washington Indoor Open, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Dempsey Indoor Track.
