Ashley Porter Voted Daktronics Second Team All-American

SAN ANGELO, Texas - Seattle University junior midfielder Ashley Porter (Redmond, Wash.), the 2006 GNAC Player of the Year, has been selected to the Daktronics Women's Soccer All-America Second Team, announced Friday by the national selection organizers. Sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences selected the Daktronics All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first team all-region picks advancing to the national ballot. This is the first year Daktronics has sponsored the NCAA Division II women's soccer All-America and all-region teams.

SAN ANGELO, Texas - Seattle University junior midfielder Ashley Porter (Redmond, Wash.), the 2006 GNAC Player of the Year, has been selected to the Daktronics Women's Soccer All-America Second Team, announced Friday by the national selection organizers.

Sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences selected the Daktronics All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first team all-region picks advancing to the national ballot. This is the first year Daktronics has sponsored the NCAA Division II women's soccer All-America and all-region teams.

Porter tied her own GNAC record with 14 assists during the season, and she led the conference with 28 total points. She earned two goals and one assist in shutout victories over Sonoma State (Aug. 28) and Northwest Nazarene (Sept. 14), plus she notched two assists in Seattle's wins over Cal State Monterey Bay (Aug. 24), Cal State Dominguez Hills (Aug. 31), and Grand Canyon (Oct. 21).

Besides this honor as well as the conference player of the year award, Porter was a unanimous selection to the All-GNAC First Team, a CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American, a member of the GNAC Academic All-Conference Team for the second straight year, and a recent honoree on the NSCAA All-Far West Region First Team. She will enter her senior season in fourth place on Seattle's all-time assists list with 34 career assists and seventh on the school's all-time points list with 70 career points.

Seattle University finished the 2006 season with a 15-3-2 overall record, including an 8-1-1 conference record good enough to win its first GNAC title since 2001. The team advanced to the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament for the second time in three seasons.
