#15 Seattle Men's Soccer Falls To #6 Seattle Pacific, 2-1

Oct. 14, 2006

Box Score

SEATTLE, Wash. - In a match that would determine the team with the upper hand in the GNAC and the Far West region, Seattle Pacific scored two early goals and then held off a rally from Seattle University as the sixth-ranked Falcons prevailed over the 15th-ranked Redhawks, 2-1, Saturday night in men's soccer action at Interbay Stadium.

Seattle Pacific (11-3, 2-0 GNAC) scored before many fans had settled in, as Brandon Crutchfield sent a crossing pass from the right wing into the box. The ball found Colin Rigby, who sent a header past Seattle goalie Chris Sorensen (Seattle, Wash.) just 38 seconds in the match to give the Falcons the early advantage.

The home team increased its lead in the 18th minute, as Rigby and Andy Willis executed a give-and-go in the box, with Willis converting from four yards out to make the score 2-0. Willis had a chance at a second goal in the 24th minute, but Sorensen would make what would turn out to be his only save of the match.

Seattle University increased the offensive pressure in the second half, especially in the last 15 minutes. In the 77th minute, John Fishbaugher (Redmond, Wash.) sent a corner kick into the box which found the head of Jason Cascio (Gilbert, Ariz.). Cascio sent the header from eight yards out past Falcon goalie Kellen Rosten for his 12th goal of the season.

Unfortunately for the Redhawks, Cascio hurt the comeback attempt with 11 minutes remaining in regulation by picking up his second yellow card of the match, leaving Seattle University one man down the rest of the way. Rosten made saves on shots by Pat Thomas (Billings, Mont.) and Elliot Fauske (Colbert, Wash.) in the last 12 minutes to keep the Falcons in the lead and finished the match with five total saves.

Seattle University (9-5, 1-1 GNAC) will look to get back on the winning track Thursday, October 19, as the team faces Notre Dame de Namur at Evergreen Valley College in San Jose, Calif., beginning at noon. The Redhawks will have another chance against Seattle Pacific in the final home match of the season on Saturday, October 28, at 2:30 p.m., at Championship Field.
