Heading into his first year at Seattle University, Aaron Hansen will be an assistant track and field coach, focusing primarily on the throws.
He brings a focus and a passion stemming from his own experience as head coach at the high school level for the last seven years in San Jose, CA. Primarily working with throwers and relay teams, Aaron coached three league champions in a row in the discus and four top 4 finishers in the Central Coast Section while sending two athletes to the California State Meet. In the 2006 Season Hansen coached his team to a league championship. In 2010 Aaron Hansen was nominated to be the Honor Coach of the Central Coast Section by his peers.
Hansen comes to Seattle from Milwaukie, Ore., where he was an all-state shot and discus thrower his junior and senior years in high school. Even though track was his most competitive sport he decided to forfeit the opportunity to compete in track and instead decided to suit up for the University of Oregon football team. After two seasons with the Ducks, Hansen decided to take off his cleats and put his throwing shoes back on. He left Eugene to compete for the Azusa Pacific University Cougars. While at APU Hansen was ranked nationally in the weight throw and was an integral member of three national championship teams.
Even though this is Coach Hansen’s first collegiate coaching position, he brings a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge to the Redhawks in the throwing events. Coach Hansen holds a Level I USATF and a Level II USATF Certification in the Throws and he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science. He is also finishing his Masters Degree in Curriculum Design.
Hansen and his wife Megan have two daughters Kaydence and Makayla and they reside in the Greenwood neighborhood in Seattle, WA.
