SEATTLE — Paris Dawson, a 6-2, 170-pound guard with three years of eligibility remaining, has committed to continuing his basketball and academic career at Seattle U, men's basketball Head Coach Chris Victor announced Monday.
Dawson becomes Victor's first signee of 2022-23 as Victor officially took over the reins of the Redhawk program on March 1.
"We are extremely excited to have Paris joining our program," said Victor. "He is a dynamic guard that plays the game with an incredible passion. His toughness, character and play-making ability will make an immediate impact and we are looking forward to getting to work."
Dawson spent the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons at Portland State. Over 50 games played, he averaged 6.7 points and 2.1 rebounds in 20 minutes per game. This past year, he scored in double figures six times, including a career-high 19 points in the second game of the season. He shot 87.0 percent from the free-throw line, which marked the 10th best in Portland State history.
Dawson averaged 8.4 points per game during the shortened 2020-21 season, starting 16 of 22 games played for the Vikings. He led the team in scoring three times and led the way in assists five times.
A Carson, Calif., native, Dawson prepped at Centennial High School where he was a first team All-Area selection and Press-Enterprise Player of the Year as a senior. Dawson averaged 18.0 ppg and made 96 three-pointers as his team went 27-5, earning berths in the CIF Southern Section and State playoffs.
A three-time All-Big VIII League selection and Big VIII League MVP as a senior, Dawson led the Huskies to two straight undefeated seasons in Big VIII league play. He averaged 12.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists as a junior for the 27-6 Huskies team. His sophomore statistics were comparable at 12.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.
At Centennial HS, Dawson was a team captain for three years and earned scholar-athlete honors. He will be a business major at Seattle U.
