After helping the Seattle University men’s basketball team to key conference victories over Texas Pan American and New Mexico State last weekend, senior guard Emerson Murray (Vancouver, B.C.) has been named the Featured Student-Athlete of the Week on GoSeattleU.com.
Thursday, Murray came off the bench and contributed four assists, two points, three rebounds, and four steals in 29 minutes on the floor. He earned his first start of the season Saturday against New Mexico State, tying his career high with six assists to go along with two points, two rebounds, and two steals as the Redhawks defeated the Aggies, 58-52.
This season, Murray has appeared in 16 games and currently leads the team in steals with 21, plus he is second on the squad in assists with 42. Murray made a significant contribution to Seattle U’s 76-67 victory over UC Davis Dec. 30 with six points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Murray is on track to receive his bachelor’s degree in sociology in June and currently carries a 3.018 grade point average.
Seattle University (9-8, 2-1 WAC) heads to the Midwest for two conference road games later this week, starting at Chicago State Thursday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. local time (5 p.m. Pacific time). The Redhawks then travel to Kansas City to take on UMKC Saturday, Jan. 24, at 6 p.m. Central time.
